Crabapple bakery = Crabapple Cupcakes and Supplies

Last week I wrote on That’s Noice about my love of the Crabapple Bakery Cupcake Cookbook and mentioned that the company had gone out of business and found there had been more than a few negative reviews about the poor-quality of the cupcakes and the bakery itself.

I’ve since discovered that they are up and running again as Crabapple Cupcakes and Supplies.

It will be interesting to see if Jennifer Graham will be able to renew the Crabapple name to its former glory. I hope she does, because those recipes in the book really are fantastic.

Shameless

So! I’ve decided to spruik myself with magnets that I’ll chuck on each side of my car:

I’m going to feel like a bit of a mong, but based on Nicky’s feedback since she got her car magnets last week, it’s definitely worth the $70 investment.

This was my test print that i propped up against the car to get a better idea of how it’ll look against the dinted black doors of my baby Mazda 2 (aka Talyn). I’ve since added my mobile number, but fear that I’ll end up regretting it.

I’ve also realised that I’ll have to be on my best behavour when I’m driving around now—no more road rage for me!

Blonde transformation

What do these 4 people have in common?

I swear to God they work at the hairdresser I was at last week.

On Wednesday night my hair looked like this:

By late Thursday, my hair was transformed to this:

I should be too embarrassed to tell you how much my hair cost — $215 (yes, I could buy an iPod for that price). I went to a fancy place in Newtown; my first foray into a “proper” hairdresser.

This place was insane — white decor, doof-doof music playing, wine on offer to clients, the works. It was like being on the set of Ugly Betty.

I was feeling awkward enough wearing thongs with my work outfit (hot look, rah!) and sitting in this pristine salon DID NOT HELP.

And the staff — I cannot begin to tell you how much fun I had eyeing them off. So many characteristically camp boys and girls wearing little outfits. The guy answering the phones looking like Russell Brand was the most fun, unsurprisingly!

But homigod they did such a good job with my hair, I’m now trying to work out how I can afford to go back next time.

Noice roundup

Leigh and I are getting more settled since launching That’s Noice and I even have my own timetable for scheduling posts and whatnot. Makes me sound organised!

Stuff I’ve written in the last week or so:

And this week I’ll be writing about YouTube addictions, vandalised vintage homewares and the healing powers of the backyard aloe vera plant.

Yay! We’ve been getting some great feedback about the site and you should totally stop by and have a sticky beak.

Widsom recovery

It’s been over a week since my last wisdom tooth was removed and I’m very glad to be off the Panadeine Forte, the Nurofen Plus, the antibiotics and the disgusting anti-bacterial mouthwash. DISGUSTING!

The last time you saw me I was nervously counting down until the tooth was removed:

Wednesday:

When my 3 other wisdom teeth were removed I had no swelling whatsoever. Kinda made up for it though this time:

Thursday:

Friday:

Saturday:

Sunday:

Up until a couple of days ago there was still some slight swelling, but now I’m free of stitches, free of pain and just have to make sure food doesn’t get stuck in the hole until it heals up more.

So I’m now what I consider to be an adult. I have done something I considered to only be worthy of a “real” grown up and is part of my breakaway from being an ACOA.

Now to stress over turning 31 in 3 months. Gah!

False assumptions

While we were getting in the car tonight:

me: what out for my new JAG handbag, it’s leather!

Dan: [sniffs bag] no it’s not!

me: it so is! it’s JAG!

Dan: well, it’s not leather!

me: but it’s worth $100, so it has to be leather!

Dan: then I should have been at the shop with you and told you it’s not leather and saved you all that money!

me: BUT! Find the tag in the bag, it’ll say it’s leather

Dan: [checks tag] vinyl.

me: shit!

Still, I like my new bag, even if it isn’t leather.

Lucky Ninety-Eight!

Finally my blank cheques have earned their weight!

I’ve been madly refreshing the Top 100 Aussie Women Bloggers list waiting to see if I made the list this month.. and success!

It’s the small things that excite me…and really, my little bits of fluff that I post here are nowhere near the callibre of other deserving ladies like Karen, Kelley, Christie and Riayn.  But it’s nice to be on a list full of interesting ladies, especially some of my lunch buddies from yesterday!

Yay! Number Ninety-Eight! :o)

Hangin’ with the internets

I’ve been doing the meet-people-from-the-internet thing since…1999? I’ve had people from the other side of the planet stay in my house for a week when I’d only known them online. I’ve had the same people host me on the other side of the planet for 4 weeks (and let me share their Christmas). And even last year, spending a girlie weekend away with girls I’d only just started to get to know online.

My real-life friends and family regularly give me That Look whenever I discuss Internet People. That’s when I remember that I’m a bit spesh in that I’m not an overly social person, usually not good in starting up conversations, yet I easily put myself in these ‘meet-up’ situations. But I keep doing these things because it’s always nice to find people in a seemingly random way and find that these people are nice and friendly and somewhat nerdy :o)

Today’s event was a Yum Cha lunch for Sydney Female Bloggers (Chick Bloggers? Bloggers that are Chicks?) at East Ocean, organised by the ever-talented Leigh.

So today I got to meet

and it was such a great way to meet interesting women who have interesting stories and hobbies and all sorts of things. To go from one extreme of having a food blogger to having someone who’s never eaten Yum Cha before. Everyone so very different, but able to sit at a big table in a noisy restaurant and manage to keep conversations going the entire time.

I’ve still been feeling a bit off-the-planet with the drugs I’m on after Thursday’s trauma and I dare say I was a bit of a doped-up version of rah today. These poor girls were very kind and tolerated me and my ADHD-like tendencies today :o) Amanda even came to the Swarovski shop with me while I bought myself a sparkly ring!

Thanks for a great day gals, promise to be a bit more normal next time ;o)
