Tomorrow I’m getting a hair cut.
A BIG one:
I think Shazza the superhairdresser wants to go with shoulder length, but I told her I was ready to go with whatever length/style she thought would suit my mug.
I’m veryveryveryexcited :))
P.S. to you cheeky buggers who thought I meant something ELSE with the post title – gotcha ;)
Normally I mention my new hair pretty soon after the fact (usually because I’m so excited after letting my hair look like crap for far too long).
But my brain hasn’t been able to deal with too much lately.
But I have to tell you about Shazza, my new love. She, of the hairdresser Glitterbox in Newtown.
Loved the whole experience… the salon, the people, the cut, the colour, the other customers. LOVE!
Shazza was recommended to me by a friend and I’m never going anywhere else.
Best part? Shazza explaining her bargain prices: “If I keep the costs affordable, people will keep coming back”. Damn right we will!
When I got home from my first date with Shazza, I tried to get a photo of the back of my head, and failed:

Did a bit better with the second attempt, but not a whole lot:

Either way, Glitterbox = love
(or not)
While my hair was being coloured at the hairdresser yesterday, I asked Twitter how short to cut my hair.
Remind me to NOT do that again, cause those Twitter peoples are far more interested in me looking like a coconut.
My new hairdresser (who doesn’t charge $200+ for the privilege) and I have decided to reset my hair, going back to something closer to my natural colour.
It’ll take some getting used to. Especially the fringe. But I think I like it.

What do these 4 people have in common?

I swear to God they work at the hairdresser I was at last week.
On Wednesday night my hair looked like this:
By late Thursday, my hair was transformed to this:
I should be too embarrassed to tell you how much my hair cost — $215 (yes, I could buy an iPod for that price). I went to a fancy place in Newtown; my first foray into a “proper” hairdresser.
This place was insane — white decor, doof-doof music playing, wine on offer to clients, the works. It was like being on the set of Ugly Betty.
I was feeling awkward enough wearing thongs with my work outfit (hot look, rah!) and sitting in this pristine salon DID NOT HELP.
And the staff — I cannot begin to tell you how much fun I had eyeing them off. So many characteristically camp boys and girls wearing little outfits. The guy answering the phones looking like Russell Brand was the most fun, unsurprisingly!
But homigod they did such a good job with my hair, I’m now trying to work out how I can afford to go back next time.
Normally I buy my shampoo and conditioner from my hairdresser. Even though it’s a bit more expensive than I would normally pay, I like the idea of supporting my hairdresser, Tania, a work-at-home mama.
I’ve had to buy an interim bottle of conditioner to last me until my next visit to Tania’s, so I bought some fruity stuff from the supermarket. Dan noticed that the conditioner tries to boost your self-esteem while detangling your locks:

Isn’t that loverly?
Last week’s haircut was a disaster. It was a mullet and I did whatever I could to hide the hair – pigtails, big hairbands, you name it:

Tonight I went to Tania, my previous hairdresser, who’s just sold her business and set up shop at home.
It was such a relief to just sit there and know that Tania knew exactly what this other hairdresser screwed up and what needed to be done to fix it.
I also kinda bought a GHD. Hopefully I’ll be able to maintain this new style:

See? My eyes look blue-er with the copper thrown into the colour. I like my new fringe.
I tried Captivate Hair and Beauty at Stanmore Village and loved it. The whole trip was a good $80 cheaper than my old hairdresser. I’ll definitely be going back.
The Naked Aunt is still staying here. I knew that ‘a few days’ would turn into ‘at least a week, maybe 3′. Humpf.
Today I went to the opening of an exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW, in downtown Sydney.

The exhibition showcased the work of Amelia Matheson, my niece-in-law. She’s 7 years old.

Milly was granted a wish by the Starlight Children’s Foundation, an organisation that grants wishes to seriously ill children. Milly is recovering from a form of neuroblastoma.

Milly wished to have art lessons with “a proper artist” and then have it displayed at the Art Gallery of NSW. Milly had sessions with Janet Laurence and today had her hair done at the hairdresser, wore her brand new pink party dress and was driven by limousine to the opening of the exhibition.

Friends and family piled into the gallery for the opening, treated to fairy bread and mini muffins.

Thankfully, Milly is well on the road to recovery and plans to have her next exhibition in New York.

Today was the the first time I shot in RAW mode. I didn’t realise that Photoshop CS2 now supports our camera. I also used RawShooter Essentials, which made life easier when trying to work out which pics to convert. It’s a bit of a culture shock to go from having space for 900+ jpg images on the 1Gb memory card, down to 70. Bloody worth it, though.
