Louis CK at the Opera House
Published 7 September 2011My favourite comedian right now is Louis CK:
Yes, he swears and many would find him offensive. But I’d put him in the same category of comedian as, say, George Carlin. Because George was unapologetic about his passion for life, and it showed, yes, even through his dirty words and cynicism. I put Louis in the same basket. Sure he crosses (many) lines, but he’s honest and at the core is this person who just wants the world to be a better place for his two kids.
There was no way we were going to miss him at the Opera House this week as part of the Just for Laughs Festival. No chance!
We hadn’t been to the Opera House since our epic Ben Folds 3-nighter. Whenever I make that walk between Circular Quay and the Opera House itself, I pinch myself and remember that I’m living in the city with the most beautiful harbour in the world.
Louis was supported by Tom Gleeson, who I’d heard of but never seen live. Louis discovered Tom via YouTube a couple of months ago and asked Tom to be the support act for his Aussie tour.
As a bonus, we had a support act for the support act. An “up-and-comer” from Melbourne called Rob Hunter, who, Louis spotted at (and I quote) “a shitty Melbourne comedy club”. So Louis asked if he could fly up to Sydney and perform at the Opera House. Rob Hunter is teh funny, keep an eye out for him.
So Louis finds his own support acts – either on YouTube or while he’s mid-tour and throws (I assume) a massive spanner into the production works.
Louis himself was hilarious, humble, honest… exactly what we wanted from our $80 tickets.
Love your work, Louis.

I’m gonna miss seeing Andrew G every day
Published 17 June 2010Late last year I discovered and started following Andrew G’s 365 project. Yeah, the guy who hosts Australian Idol (or did he quit? I wouldn’t know, I hardly watch TV).
He’s up to day 363:
Even though he’s definitely perve-worthy, he’s actually got some interesting things to say about the state of society and teaches me things about the middle-east.
Apart from being a photographer, he’s a twitterer and a blogger and he’s a tumblr too. Oh, and he uses formspring, a website where he answers whatever questions he gets asked.
Even though he hangs out a fair bit online, I think I’m going to feel a bit lost without having a new photo to check out every day… I’m interested in the articles, I swear, not just the pictures! ;)
