The view from my front door

I love my place, even though it’s got floorboards on the ceiling:

front-door-view

Can you tell I’m on holiday? There’s stuff everywhere and I haven’t even finished unpacking from my weekend away. Or even the giant gold box that the Magnum Gold?! package was delivered in last week.

But! I’ve done the washing up!

Usually there’s a cat on the dining table (until I yell that them to get down), or piles of shopping on the kitchen counter. Or at least a pile of shoes in the corner that we’ve kicked off when we get home from work.

The theme for this week’s My Place and Yours over at Hello Owl is “What do you see when you walk through your front door?”. You should join in, it’s fun to sticky beak at everyone’s lives ;)

The panorama pic was taken with about 10 pics on my iPhone and stitched together automatically with the “AutoStitch” app on the phone itself. It’s a bit blurry in places, but I suspect that it’s largely because the light isn’t that great in our place…

My most useful/used gadget

This week’s My Place & Yours theme was chosen by the lovely Susan.

It is any surprise what mine is?

It’s tragic I know.

I watch my favourite TV shows on it. I spend too much time playing games on it. It tracks time for me when I’m exercising. It reminds me when everyone’s birthdays are. It plays podcasts that allow me to get a good night’s sleep. It is the alarm that makes sure I get to work on time.

Occasionally, it lets me make phone calls. Damn iPhones are freaking useless with their limited bands for 3G access and phone network connectivity. Shits me to tears.

But I love it.

What do I collect?

This is a _really_ good question on My Place & Yours this week… I used to collect all sorts of stuff… autographs (mainly of b-grade celebrities), programs from plays/musicals/ballets/etc, unicorn trinkets, nail polish, posters of John Stamos, Dean Cain and David Dixon

Um, yeah. Some embarrassing stuff.

Nowadays I’m either too lazy or too much of a tightarse to collect anything in particular. We live in a smallish place and I live with a geek who needs to be able to store his spare motherboards, heat sinks, RAM and other things that I hate having lying around (until my PC dies and suddenly I’m incredibly grateful).

So apart from the usual collection of dust bunnies, washing up, weeds, furballs and cobwebs, I had a look around the house to see what was obvious in the collection stakes:

Threadless t-shirts - Oh yes. I have a whole drawer dedicated to them, but now the drawer is overflowing and won’t close properly:

(There’s Bear in the corner of that shot, wondering if he can sleep in the Threadless drawer tonight)

Cupcake-baking supplies – kitchen storage is minimal at our place, so I have a giganto plastic tub to store everything:

To be fair, anything in the “cupcake” category is fair game. I have t-shirts, tea towels, aprons, tea cups, mugs, calendars, jewellery, cookbooks and heaps of other cupcake paraphernalia  that I’ve probably forgotten right now. I don’t buy as much as I used to; mainly so that friends and family have a chance of buying me birthday/Christmas presents that I don’t already have ;)

I would LOVE to collect beautiful framed photos, blown up and hung on our walls. Maybe one day… :)

My top drawer

Has it really been a week already?

This week’s My Place & Yours is “top drawer”, and here’s mine:

Hmm, what a shitpile!

You can see hints of the stationery nerd within… coloured Sharpies, coloured gel pens, rubber bands, sticky tape dispenser… oh, and the tickets to see Newton Faulkner at the Enmore in a couple of weeks!

You might also notice the black ring box; the box my engagement ring was sitting in for THREE WEEKS just 1 metre from where I’m sitting right now – and I had NO idea whatsoever (+1 for boys and their messy desks).

This week’s theme is awesome voyeurism, woohoo!

Pink @ My Place & Yours

It’s the 2nd week of My Place & Yours over at helloowl and this week’s theme is PINK!

Well well well, it’s my favourite colour, dontcha know?

Purple was my favourite colour up until about 5 years ago or so. Suddenly my life was all about the most feminine colour of all!

I’ve been going about my life, spying certain things in the shade of pink (the RIGHT shade of pink, that is), and often talking myself out of buying these things because I “have so many things in pink already”. Except now I’m realising that I kinda don’t.

Dammit!

So I’ve taken a bit of an inventory – stopping short at my underwear drawer and jewellery wall (cause I’m well aware of the pink overload in those cateogories!):

A trusty Tupperware container in pink form. I usually take nuts or yoghurt to work in these.

Our ONE enviro bag that isn’t green. Magically, this one is often left behind in the car – I think Dan prefers carrying the green ones into the supermarket!

Bags where I keep shoe cleaners and whatnot beside my dresser drawers. I have a larger/trolley version of the bigger bag that I use for client meetings – helps that it’s the same pink that’s in my business logo :D

Emergency sewing box on my dresser. Let the mockery of my labeling system begin!

A respectable amount of pink in my wardrobe. Only one pair of shoes feature pink.

My desk is a bit more pinkied :)

I’ve run out of time for it tonight, but tomorrow night I’m going to sit down and take a good look at all the other pink posts for the week. Hoping to get some inspiration from the other girls!
