Hosting/domain names
My hosting is with Media Temple, who I transferred to from DreamHost in January 2012. I was comfortable with DreamHost after 3½ years with them, but no matter how secure my WP insalls were, they were getting hacked. Media Temple has been great so far and it’s clear that you do get more when you pay a little bit more for your webhosting.
Blogging software
The blog is run on WordPress, the queen of all blogging software. I use lots of WP plugins – including, but not limited to
- Akismet
- All in one SEO Pack
- Better Blogroll
- CommentLuv
- Contact Form 7
- FD Feedburner Plugin
- Google XML sitemaps
- LinkWithin
- Subscribe to Comments
- Theme Test Drive
- Ultimate Google Analytics
- WordPress Database Backup
The design
The current theme is affectionately known (by me) as “rainbowcake”, for obvious reasons.
The header image is by The Decorated Cookie and it makes me want to lick my monitor.
I created the theme using Artisteer, blog-designing software. It’s great software once you know how to tweak it to your liking (and especially the CSS – it needs a lot of tweaking with each creation). I customised the theme using NotePad++ and XAMPP to run WordPress on my local computer first.
My profile pic was taken by Jarod and/or Liz on my wedding day; it’s my favourite pic of me :) /egotastic
Photos in my posts
I take photos using my Samsung Galaxy S II (Android mobile phone), Canon IXUS 80IS (aka the handbag camera) and Nikon D40.
But most photos are taken with Dan’s D80 with my 35mm 1:1.8 prime lens – love the DoF it can create.
I sometimes Photoshop my photos, sometimes with the help of Photoshop Actions by Mulletgod or The Pioneer Woman.
Nitty grittys
I use Google Analytics for my stats porn. I’m not very good at making the most of it. I also use statcounter for an alternative version of stats. Cause let’s face it, no stat system is perfect.
The moola department
I put Google ads on my most popular posts. It doesn’t make me much $, at most a dollar each month.
