Hi, my name is Laura and I like meeting stranger Twitterers in dark alleys

So I got a private twitter message (a DM, if you’re up with the lingo) from Liz of Jarod & Liz last night:

hey, if it’s not too creepy, jarod wants us to duck down and do a joint 365 with you tonight. If you haven’t done one already. You can most definitely say no if you want!! :)

How could I resist a request that ends in a smiley face? Sure, I’d only met Liz once before at a Blog Chicks lunch, but we live relatively nearby — and just quietly, I have a sixth sense for knowing which online people I’ll get along with in real life, and these two totally cut it — and we’re all doing the 365 in 2010 photo/portrait/self-portrait thing.

So this was a perfectly natural thing to do, right?

So we set the time. And a dark place:

And what was supposed to be a quick photo opportunity turned into a 2-hour chat-fest! And they even brought some chocolate mousse for me because inner westie types are nice and thoughtful like that:

Cat people are cool and twitter people are cool. Combine the two and you get super-cool!

Thanks guys for the laughs, the screams, the zomg-there’s-a-rat (5 times over) and of course, the chocolate mousse:

Bear says thanks, too :)

By George!

George Michael.

George Michael.

George Michael.

Amen.

The man lived up to all my expectations. And exceeded them.

Yes, George is getting old, but it didn’t matter when he was singing or swinging his hips. Nicky and I spent the night swooning and trying to spot the paunch he’s attempting to hide by wearing a jacket.

No words will do last night justice. But it was worth re-injuring my sore foot, injuring my other one and the sheer exhaustion.

Awe. Some.

(and yes, I cried happy tears while he was on stage)

It’s snowing in my backyard in summer

The big tree in our backyard drops seeds this time of year.

It’s worse this year because of the Lorikeets.

I’m not sure what the tree’s called, I thought it was a nightshade tree, but Google doesn’t agree with me. It flowers early summer, big white trumpet-y flowers that bloom at night, and drop before breakfast time.

Either way, it looks like its snowing in our backyard right now:

FIVE sleeps ’til George Michael in Sydney!

Zomg!!!!!!11!!!!!11111one!!1

*happy dance*

Apparently he’s already been spotted out at Catalina’s at Rose Bay and a hot tip for the upcoming Mardis Gras.

His first concert is done and dusted and there weren’t complaints a-la Britney Spears when she toured here last year. So now  I can really get excited.

I’ve lost my long-distance glasses; I went to the optom and ordered a new pair today that’ll be ready in time for Friday night.

All I have to do now is wait:

iPod story

I feel sorry for my iPod. It doesn’t get very much love now that I’ve got an iPhone.

It’s mainly kept with the iPod stereo down at the other end of the penthouse so I can keep myself entertained while making cupcakes/washing up/sewing/whatever.

But it needed some open heart surgery.

The surgery itself was a success (eventually), but its acquired some scars that’ll never heal.

On the screen:

And on one side:

Poor, unloved iPod!

Urban Lorikeets

Twilight in my backyard is crazy busy:

The local Rainbow Lorikeets LOVE the big tree in our backyard. I usually hate the tree because at this time of year it drops so many seeds that it looks like snow in my backyard. If it’s not dropping seeds, it’s dropping horrible flowers or blocking our sewerage pipes.

But now that I’ve realised that I’ve got native birds in my backyard (and not just sparrows), I’m taking the time to stop and watch the lorikeets hang out and have their dinner.

Lorikeets are noisy buggers, always yacking while they make it snow.

Pretty impressive for my concrete backyard!

My SD card is chockas with blurry lorikeet photos! Think I need to get me a monopod….
